14 Day Memory Verse Challenge on the Love of God

Jeremiah 31:3 The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

  • The Lord appeared long ago to His people and assured them of His love
  • He reminded them that His love is an everlasting love
  • Because of His love for us He is continually drawing us to Himself through his loving kindness.

Isn’t this the kind of love we should focus on?

I’m presenting a memory verse challenge for the first 14 days of February leading up to Valentine’s Day.  Will you join me?

A free printable with 14 verses (actually there are 16 verses) focusing on God’s love for us will arrive in your inbox when you link to this challenge.

Will you allow the Lord to draw you closer to Himself as you meditate on His love for you during these 14 days?   I’m looking forward to you joining me.

My first thought was : God loves everyone. No matter how good or bad a person is, God is always Love and wants everyone to love Him. It is just a matter of a person being willing to seek His Love. When they do He is already there just waiting for that person to seek His Love.

    Ellen

So Very True! I’m so glad that God is not a respector of persons. He loves us one and all! And He showed us His great love by sending His one and only Son to die for the sins of the world. Oh what love and oh the riches we have in Him if we are willing to seek Him daily. Thanks for sharing!

Betty

In reference to today’s verse: It was/is like a Military Banner. Also, He gave His Love to all when he gave His life to be crucified and hung on that old rugged cross. “We will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our Banners in the name of our God. May the Lord grant all your request.” Ps:20-5
Now I must give credit where credit is due. I love my study Bible where I can go back and forth and find the answers. I would encourage anyone who does not have the Study Bible to get one. It can take you from one end of the Bible to the other.

    Ellen

Thanks for sharing your good thoughts. Just as you said and was also in the poem of the newsletter:

Over land and sea, wherever man may dwell,
    Make the glorious tidings known;
Of the crimson banner now the story tell,
While the Lord shall claim His own!

Our banners will wave victorious because the Lord Himself has conquered death and the grave. Study Bible are great. I use a lot of Bible apps and love them!

Good morning Ellen, I have been up since 3:30 waiting and watching for the snow, sleet and rain to come. It finally started around 6:30. I kept waiting to see if it was going to get so bad, we wouldn’t have church, pondering whether to get ready to go or not. Finally about 7:15 the phone rings and it is the auto call from the Minister announcing the service had been cancelled for today. So here I set at the old PC thinking about the verse you posted today. I love the way you spelled VALENTINE down through the letters. Amazing what you can do with God’s word. And yes, it is probably one of the most memorized verses in the Bible. I think anyone who grew up in the church knows it by heart. What a powerful message it is: The fact that God loved us so much that He was willing to give up His only Son for all of us who would believe and accept Him as our Savior. And to know that we will have everlasting life and be with Him for Eternity is such a comforting thought.
Ellen, am I the only one who is responding to your daily Memory Verses? I was hoping to see lots of different thoughts and ideas from other folks. What can I do to help get the word out?

    Ellen

Thanks for sharing your thoughts again Betty! I’ve had a couple other sweet ladies email with there thoughts but that’s all. But I am encouraged that others are opening the email and reading it. I can see it in my stats from where I send the letter. But that’s OK. I’m thankful for the ones who do share and encourage and I’m glad if I can be an encouragement to someone else. I will just keep encouraging others to leave their comments and who know maybe somewhere down the road others will. Blessing to you.

I posted it on my FB page yesterday challenging my friends to join in.

    Ellen

Thanks Betty! You’re a real encourager. Blessings.

Just to know that Christ loved me enough to lay down His life, humbles me. A thought came to my mind and caused me to ask myself, “Could I and/or Would I be willing to do that?” I realize that is a “Deep thought”. I am ashamed to say, I don’t know what my answer would be and I’ll bet there is a lot of other folks who would wonder the same thing. Even though, we should have that same Love in our heart that Christ had/has for us. Personally speaking from my heart at this moment, I can say, I would be willing to do it for a child or grandchild or my husband, but would I be willing to do it for anyone else? And yet, I know down deep, that my faith should be strong enough to believe that God would be with me and give me the strength. I thank God for His Love for me and pray He will help me to be more Loving. I think as Christians, our Love is tested on a daily basis. That is when the Love that God has blessed us with kicks in. I know I have rambled around the moon and back with this. I hope it makes a little sense. Not real sure, it relates real close to the Verse of the day, but it was a thought I had and wanted to share.

    Ellen

I have asked myself the same question many times. That really is a tough one. I feel the same way. I’m really not sure if I would be willing to lay down my life either for someone outside of my family and perhaps none of us would know until we were actually faced with that situation and God gave us the grace to deal with it. Thanks for your honesty and for sharing your thoughts.

We were encouraged by our Bible Study Teacher a few years back to get the little book titled: “The 100 Most Important Bible Verses”.. Of course, I got it and keep it close by so I can pick it up and read a verse when I have a spare moment. So today when I picked it up and opened it, the verse was John 4:16 – God is Love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

I thought, how appropriate, it fits right in with all the other verses of this 14 day Valentine Challenge. There is a message that follows, but it is a page and half long, so I won’t copy all of it,but the gist of the message is; ” A Love that never Fails”. His Love can’t be earned or lost. God loves you like an only child. He loves you simply because you are His. God is more than agape. He is agape. His very essence his nature, is Love, given without obligation or expectation. He loves unconditionally because that is who He is. “God is Love”

    Ellen

That’s really neat. I love how that happens. I am always amazed at God’s unconditional love. Thanks for sharing.

Ellen, you are not alone when you say you have a sinful nature. I think it is a “Given” that we all have a sinful nature. Today as I was dealing with a foreign speaking person on the phone trying to resolve a problem, I became very frustrated and let the old “Anger Devil” kick in. I was not very nice to her, because she couldn’t get my information right. Probably most folks dealing with this type of situation will lose their temper. I know when I am doing it, just what a “Sin” I am committing. Of course, when it is over I am ashamed of myself. Especially, when she got done with the problem and was thanking me for doing business with them, she said to me, “Have a good rest of your day and God Bless”. That made me feel about 2 inches tall. I would have like to call her back and apologize, but it was too late, so now I must ask God to forgive me for being nasty to a person who was trying so diligently to assist me and never lost her temper. She just kept asking me to please be patient and she would find out what she could do to resolve the problem. I realize, this is just one little item of the “Sinful Nature” and one that I certainly need to work on.
My verse of the day is – Ps. 25:6 – Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast Love, for they have been from of old. God’s Mercy and His Grace is timeless. I realize I jumped the track and didn’t concentrate on the verses you posted, but went off on another subject, but your message, just happened to fall right into line with my “Sinful Nature” of the Day. I should be quoting John 3:16, because, I know how much He love me. I go to my Bible Study tomorrow morning and I know I will feel revived after that, because our teacher does such an awesome job teaching. She just radiates in God’s Love.

        Ellen

Thanks for sharing that Betty. For sure the devil loves to jump in there when he can and do damage. Praise God for His never ending love and forgiveness. Sounds like your verse fit right in with our challenge. Your comments are always a blessing to me. God is good.

          Betty Rhodes

Thanks for you kind words Ellen. I enjoy your daily postings. They mean a lot to me because you speak about things that are so relevant to me and probably everyone. It is a struggle everyday to live a christian life. No matter how hard we try, like you said the old devil loves to jump in and just seems to be at every turn in our life. It is a constant battle, but we know who our real leader is. We just have to keep that in mind and know that He is also at every turn. If we let him lead us, we are okay. Happy Valentines Day.

It was 60 years ago today that my Sweetheart and I had planned our first date. However, when we got up that morning, it had snowed during the night and we had about a foot of snow on the ground. He told me later when we got back to school what his Mother said to him that morning when she went in to wake him. She said to him “If you going to see that girl today, you better get your dog sled ready”. Of course, way back then I didn’t have a phone. They had the old wall phone, but it didn’t do him any good, since I didn’t have one. I guess way back then we just kind of figured things out and I knew he would not be able to pick me up since we had so much snow. We were both seniors in High School and the next day we got back to school, we were extremely happy to see each other. From that day forward is History. We will be married 60 years come August 2nd. We had a short courtship, but it was meant to be, or we wouldn’t still be together. I think I told you some of the story when we first started communicating so I won’t go back there.
As I told you before, our Circle is doing our Bible Study on the Book of Ruth and what an appropriate study it was today, talking about the love of Ruth & Boaz on Valentines day. Neither one was looking for love and just didn’t realize what God already had planned for them.

    Ellen

60 Years! That is awesome! God is good! What a testimony of God’s grace. You don’t hear many stories like that any more.
I love the story of Ruth and yes, it is such an appropriate study for Valentine’s Day. Because of Ruth’s trust and obedience in the Lord He multiplied the blessings on the family. And to think that she was in the line of the Lord Jesus Himself! What an awesome story and how God leads in ways we would never imagine! He certainly does above all that we could ever ask or think.
